NFPA 54 Requirements for Appliance Installation
Key NFPA 54 requirements:
Pipe sizing
Every gas line must be sized to deliver adequate fuel flow at the correct pressure. Tropigas engineers calculate the correct pipe diameter based on the appliance's BTU input, the length of the gas line, and the number of fittings in the run.
Shutoff valve
A readily accessible manual shutoff valve must be installed within 6 feet of every appliance, upstream of the flexible connector.
Flexible connector
A listed flexible metallic connector must be installed between the rigid gas line and the appliance's gas inlet.
Pressure testing
Before any new gas line installation is placed in service, it must be tested for leaks. Tropigas performs this pressurized leak test on every installation.
Appliance clearances
Gas appliances must be installed with minimum clearances from combustible materials per NFPA 54.
Multi-Appliance Systems
A properly designed propane gas system runs a main supply line from your tank regulator into your home, then branches to individual appliance connections. If you install only a water heater today but plan to add a stove and dryer in the future, Tropigas can design and partially install the main line infrastructure now, with stubbed connections for future appliances.
