Every property has different fuel needs. A small apartment that only uses propane for cooking has very different requirements than a whole home running a backup generator, or a restaurant with a commercial kitchen. This guide explains every propane tank size Tropigas offers in Puerto Rico and helps you match the right size to your use, with the standard 90% fill level used on the island.

- 1,000+ gallon (horizontal, commercial and industrial only): horizontal ASME tanks for businesses, restaurants, hotels, and industrial operations. Usable capacity at 90% fill is about 900 gallons for a 1,000 gallon tank. These tanks are not for standard residential use.

What size do I need by use
The right tank size depends on your total appliance load and how often you want a delivery. Use this as a starting point:
- Cooking only: a portable cylinder or a 120 gallon Fatboy is enough.
- Cooking, water heater, and dryer: a 120 to 250 gallon tank.
- Whole home or home with a generator: a 250 to 500 gallon tank.
- Business, restaurant, hotel, or industry: 500 to 1,000+ gallons.
Propane weighs about 4.24 lb per gallon at 60°F, so a full 500 gallon tank at 90% fill holds about 450 gallons, or roughly 1,908 lb of propane. Your actual consumption varies with appliance load, climate, and generator runtime. A certified technician can confirm the right size for your property.
