Puerto Rico's climate is made for outdoor living. But nothing ruins a family cookout faster than running out of propane halfway through grilling. If you're tired of exchanging 20-pound cylinders and constantly checking fuel levels, a permanent propane connection to your outdoor grill or patio kitchen is the ultimate upgrade.
What Is a Permanent Grill Connection?
A permanent connection links your outdoor grill directly to your home's main propane tank via an underground or above-ground gas line. Instead of relying on a small portable cylinder attached to the grill, your grill draws fuel from your 120, 250, or 500-gallon main tank.
The Benefits of a Permanent Connection
- Never run out mid-cookout: Your 500-gallon main tank provides essentially unlimited fuel for grilling. You never have to pause cooking to swap a cylinder.
- No more cylinder exchanges: Stop hauling heavy 20-pound cylinders to the store for exchange or refill.
- Consistent pressure: A direct connection to your main tank provides more consistent gas pressure than a small cylinder, resulting in better, more even cooking performance.
- Aesthetics: Eliminate the unsightly portable cylinder from your beautiful patio setup.
⚡ Can My Current Grill Be Connected? Yes, in most cases. If your grill currently runs on a standard 20-pound propane cylinder, it is an LP (liquefied petroleum) gas grill. Tropigas can install a permanent gas line to your grill location with a quick-connect fitting or direct connection. If you are buying a new grill, ensure you purchase an LP gas model, not a natural gas model.
The Installation Process
- Step 1: Free site evaluation. A Tropigas engineer assesses the distance from your main tank to your grill location and determines the best route for the gas line.
- Step 2: Gas line installation. Tropigas installs the gas line, either buried underground (recommended for aesthetics and safety) or secured above ground along walls or fences.
- Step 3: Shutoff valve installation. A dedicated manual shutoff valve is installed near the grill for safety and easy maintenance.
- Step 4: Connection and testing. The grill is connected, and a pressurized leak test is performed to certify the installation.
Underground vs Above-Ground Gas Lines
Underground lines are the preferred choice for permanent outdoor connections. They are hidden from view, protected from physical damage, and eliminate tripping hazards on your patio. Tropigas uses specialized underground gas piping that resists corrosion.
Above-ground lines are a more budget-friendly option if the route from the tank to the grill allows for safe, secure attachment along an existing wall or structure.
