Who Can Become a Tropigas Customer
Any homeowner, renter, business owner, or facility manager in Puerto Rico can open a Tropigas account. There is no minimum consumption requirement for residential accounts. Commercial and industrial accounts are also welcome and handled by our dedicated commercial accounts team.
What You Need to Get Started
To open a new residential propane account, have the following ready when you call:
- Your service address and contact information.
- The size of your existing propane tank if you already have one installed, or your preference for tank size if you need a new installation.
- The type of propane appliances you plan to use, such as cooking range, water heater, dryer, or generator.
- Your preferred delivery frequency if you have a preference.
For commercial accounts, also have your business name, type of operation, and estimated monthly propane consumption ready.
Do You Need a Tank Installation
If your property does not have a propane tank installed, Tropigas can assess your needs and connect you with the right tank solution. Tank size depends on your consumption and the appliances you plan to run.
Common residential tank sizes in Puerto Rico include 120-gallon, 250-gallon, and 500-gallon tanks. At the standard 90% fill level, these hold 108, 225, and 450 usable gallons respectively.

Once your account is set up, your first delivery will be scheduled based on your location and route availability. Residential and commercial customers can receive same-day delivery depending on the time of their call. Call early in the morning for best same-day availability.
Your driver will arrive, fill your tank to the standard 90% capacity, and leave a delivery receipt showing the gallons delivered and the price. You do not need to be present for most residential deliveries, but the tank must be accessible.
Switching from Another Propane Provider
If you are currently receiving propane from another provider and want to switch to Tropigas, the process is simple. Call 787-641-8002 and let our team know you are switching. We will set up your account and schedule your first delivery. There is no penalty or fee for switching providers.
If the existing tank on your property belongs to your current provider, there may be a tank swap required. Our team will advise you on the process when you call.
