Two Ways to Refill Your Propane in Puerto Rico

Tropigas offers two propane refill options depending on your tank type. For stationary tanks (Fatboy 120 gallon, 250 gallon, 500 gallon, and larger), Tropigas delivers propane directly to your property via bobtail truck, filling your tank on site the same day you call. For portable cylinders (20 lb and 100 lb), our domestic distribution vehicles or plant locations provide refill and exchange service. Call 787-641-8002 to determine which option fits your tank and schedule your refill.

Same Day Propane Refill Delivery

For customers with stationary propane tanks, Tropigas offers same day delivery refill service across all 78 municipalities in Puerto Rico, Monday through Saturday. You call, we deliver the same day. Our bobtail trucks travel directly to your property, connect to your tank's fill valve, and refill your tank to the correct level: 90 percent for standard fills in Puerto Rico (80 to 85 percent during summer months). No need to transport your tank or visit a plant.

Call 787-641-8002 for same day propane refill delivery to your property.

Propane Cylinder Refill and Exchange at Our Plants

For customers with portable propane cylinders (20 lb and 100 lb), Tropigas operates 23 distribution plants across Puerto Rico where you can bring your empty cylinder for refill or exchange. Our plants are located across all regions of the island from Arecibo and Isabela in the north, to Ponce and Yauco in the south, to Humacao and Yabucoa in the east. Call 787-641-8002 to find the plant nearest to your location and confirm current hours.

How Full Should Your Tank Be After a Refill

The correct fill level for propane tanks in Puerto Rico is 90 percent of tank capacity for standard fills. This is different from the 80 percent rule commonly cited for mainland United States under NFPA 58, because Puerto Rico's climate and local regulations allow for the 90 percent fill standard. During summer months, fill levels may be reduced to 80 to 85 percent depending on your municipality and ambient temperature conditions. Tropigas technicians apply the correct fill level for your specific situation automatically.

When Should You Refill Your Propane Tank

The right time to refill your propane tank is when your gauge reads between 25 and 30 percent capacity, not when it runs completely empty. Running out of propane entirely requires a safety leak test and system inspection before the gas can be turned back on, adding time and inconvenience to your service call. Since Tropigas offers same day propane refill delivery Monday through Saturday across all 78 municipalities, there is no need to wait until you are running on empty.

Call 787-641-8002 when your tank reaches 25 to 30 percent for a same day refill.

Propane Refill Safety

Every Tropigas propane refill follows strict safety protocols. Our certified technicians perform a visual inspection of your tank, valve assembly, and visible connections during every delivery. The fill level is measured and controlled precisely to the correct percentage. If any safety concern is identified during the refill, the technician will advise you before completing the service. Never attempt to refill a propane tank yourself with unauthorized equipment.
